Dermabrasion Vs. Microdermabrasion: What’s the Difference?
When considering a skin procedure to help with scarring, wrinkles or dry skin, it’s important to know the facts and differences about these two types of procedures. Although Dermabrasion and Microdermabrasion may sound very similar, they are designed to produce different results.
Microdermabrasion is a non-invasive procedure that helps with skin discoloration, wrinkles and gives your skin a “healthy glow” by exfoliating the top non-viable skin cells on your face. Microdermabrasion is considered a very simple skin procedure with little to no recovery time.
Dermabrasion, on the other hand, is considered a more drastic procedure performed mainly for scar removal. During a dermabrasion procedure, a handheld device is used to peel off layers of facial skin until the smoothest layer of skin is revealed. The recovery time for dermabrasion is estimated at 10-14 days, depending on the severity of the treatment. It’s also required for patients that have undergone dermabrasion to stay out of the sun for up to three months.
As you can see, these two procedures produce drastically different results, microdermabrasion being the less drastic procedure of the two. When considering either of these procedures, the Collagen Veil® POST or CARE masks should be incorporated into your procedure plan.
The PREP, POSt and CARE masks included in our line are guaranteed to enhance and improve your experience with any type of skin procedure. The Prep Mask is used before a procedure, and is designed to hydrate, condition and nourish your skin. It can also be used over topical anesthetic to reduce the pain by improving the efficacy of the topical and reducing the amount of time it needs to remain on the face. The Post Mask is used after a procedure, and will soothe your skin, using natural nutrients such as Aloe Vera and Witch Hazel. A patient can use the Care Mask following a procedure every 2 to 3 days, allowing the skin to continue to hydrate and feel refreshed. Collagen Veil is a necessity to produce the best results from your skin procedure!
