The face mask is more popular than ever.  The category has doubled in sales from 2013 to 2015.   Face masks come in many different shapes, sizes, colors and materials.  All tout improving skin quality in one way or another from hydrating to brightening to reducing pore size.  Masks come in many forms such as creams, paper sheets, powders that you mix with water to create a solid mask and collagen gels.

Masks also come in many grades and are sold online, at pharmacies, beauty stores like Sephora and Ulta, and  professional masks can be found at physician offices and mddi-spas.

More clinicians at Dermatology, Plastic Surgery and Medi-Spa offices are incorporating masks into their pre- and post- treatments protocols to get the best possible patient outcomes.  After ablative treatments like lasers, radio frequency (RF) and microneedling, a patient’s face can be red, irritated and inflamed.  Collagen gel face masks can help reduce the “heat” the patients feels immediately following a treatment and help reduce downtime.

According to NPD, “The face-mask subcategory is experiencing growth of its own — in two years, the market doubled from $60 million in sales in 2013, to roughly $120 million in sales in 2015”.   Beside the immediate benefits from face masks, consumers are buying them as last-minute purchases, which is driving sales in this category.  In addition, women love face masks as they are fun!
